Chapter 4 covers the concerns of prenatal care in American women and the role of ethnicity. In the United States 7 of every 1000 children born die within the first year. The U.S. has higher numbers than many other countries. I assume this is attributed to the idea that some countries have higher quality health care. Countries such as France, China, Sweden, Norway and Canada have high quality health care include in the high tax rates. In the U.S. culture and ethnicity play a large role. African American mothers statistics are virtually double that of Caucasian women. Studies indicate that African American women are more likely to be lower on the socioeconomic ladder than Caucasian women, making the availability of quality health care and health insurance more difficult. Prenatal health care consists of doctor visits, screening for disease and defects, nutrition supplements for the mother and counseling.
